The Terminal

Construction of a specialized intermodal container transfer facility (ICTF, or simply terminal) gives its owner, Russkaya Troyka, a hand on all elements of the multimodal sea-ICTF-railroad chain. It makes containerized freight delivery a seamless process that cuts, on average, by 17% the time of through delivery, an achievement that is fully consistent with the national challenge of diverting some freight away from the Deep Sea lanes to the Russian multimodal transport network.

Russkaya Troyka’s container transfer terminal is expected to be in shape to start handling freight in 2010 at a rate of 120,000 TEUs a year, to gradually increase to 250,000 TEUs in 2014.

The project comprises two stages:
1. At the first stage, several ICTF components are to be built on a swath of the shore now owned by the Far Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO) and on new ground created by fills. The terminal will have wharf with a waterfront wall 186 meters long and berthing depth of 15 meters, with a total area of 5.42 hectares (or about 14 acres). Construction of this stage is to start sometime in 2007, to be completed in 2009, and be fully operational in 2010.
2. At the second stage, construction of the terminal is to continue on new land next to its first stage. The facility will have a waterfront wall 405 meters long, with a berthing depth of 15 meters, and a total area of 11.35 hectares (or over 28 acres). Construction is to start in 2008 and finish in 2011, when it will be put into service as well.
